I cannot believe I have never done a devoted makeup review post before – about time I change this!
The Sleek Storm Palette is a much loved makeup item but the colours always made me feel a little unsure on whether it was the right one for me. I thought I would give a little review of my opinions since getting my hands on it.
As I mentioned, I was slightly worried that I wouldn’t use all the colours in this palette as green and blue aren’t necessarily ones that I gravitate towards.
My first thoughts were that a lot of the shades are very pigmented, which I will show you in the swatches, but there is a severe lack of matte shades. I don’t mind having several palettes open and using a few for an eye look but I feel the dark brown and black had no need to be shimmery.
Side by side I think the differences in pigmentation is pretty obvious. On the lighter shades (the left) the light brown (third from the bottom) took almost three finger swatches to even appear on my arm. This is completely different for the darker shades. Each one was just one swipe through the product and the pay off is just incredible.
I adore the gold shimmer which is something I don’t always find in a palette – generally the lighter shades are pinky/cool toned highlights.
I took these photos after the eye shadow had been on for 2 hours to give a better impression of wear. Similar to the swatches, the dark brown I used in the crease lasted for ages and I’m super impressed.
I used the pink shimmer across my whole eyelid (in the top right of the palette) and initially it was incredibly vibrant and looked amazing. 2 hours later the colour has slightly faded in the centre of my lid (it does seem more faded in the photo than real life) which slightly sucks but I feel like I could have used a base eyeshadow to see if it effects the longevity of the colours.
The light shimmer in the corner of my eye and under my brow lasted amazingly, almost identical to when I put it on so I was super happy with that!
I do love this palette. I generally use the top row of colours, however, which perform slightly less than the darker row below.
My final thoughts are that if you use the dark greens and blues and really want some shimmer in them, this palette is perfect. The colour pay off of these in particular is incredible and they look great. Although, if you favour the light pinks and browns, there are other palettes out there that can perform better.
Overall, I would give this palette 4/5 for the bottom row of eyeshadows and 3.5/5 for the top row. However, for £8.99 you can’t go wrong!
Sidenote: After searching for this palette online for a link, the dark blue/navy shade in my palette seems to have been replaced with a lighter blue? Has this been reformulated perhaps?!
I hope you liked my first proper makeup review!
