Ella’s Updates | The New Blog

Hello Hello Hello! Welcome to the new ellamaygarrett.com blog. I really hope you guys like it! It has taken me a few days to umm and ahh about making this decision, go through with it and then figure out how the hell everything works so please give me time to understand the various hurdles of going self hosted.

I am very new to this and the only help I received was from a few very late night conversations with the Site Ground team where I essentially panicked over and over to them so please understand that this isn’t 100% up and running how I would like just yet. Although, I am extremely happy with how my site is looking at the moment and I hope you are too!

I want to apologise for any mistakes you may notice – I am still tweaking some little things here and there. I also know that two drafts got published in the time I was working on my site which I tried (and obviously failed) to prevent. I am really sorry about that too.

Please let me know if this post appears in WordPress reader as I have had some problems with that so your feedback would be really appreciated. If there is anything, as a follower, that you like or would like me to change please let me know. What is most important is ellamaygarrett being accessible and perfect for you guys.

I will be doing a self hosted experience post (update: it is here now!) as it was a reasonably stressful experience for myself and people’s post such as Adell’s and Angela’s really helped me understand what I was doing.

I have contacted the giveaway winner already (which was the lovely Chloe) and I am posting her prize off to her today. Thank you so much to everyone that entered, it was so great to see it go down well! Because of how well things went I am hoping to hold another one before Christmas and ensure it is international as that was something I know you guys wanted.

Thank you for your endless support!

Your site is lookomg good Ella! I love the new header 😄
I’m glad you made the move, and that my post helped put you at ease. It was a strange process that made me panic a lot along the way too 😂 Your post showed up in my reader which is good 🙂
As for the number of followers, have you migrated them from your previous site? That was an extra thing i had to do since my dead site still had my 1000+ followers 😂

Thank you so much! I kept reading your post with every step I did to double check everything I was doing – it helped so much! Yes!! I did that today but somehow another 9 people followed my old site and I’m scared to migrate those over in case it replaces the ones I have already migrated over! xx

Congrats on going self-hosted! This post showed up on my reader but so did your drafts that accidentally posted. Once I click them to try to open them on your site, it brings me to an error page!

Everything else looks wonderful though 💗

Woohoo, this is fab! Stressful yes, but worth it definitely. Did you pay for the new theme as well, or is this a WordPress.com one?
Another milestone achieved!! It was a huge learning curve for me too so you’re not alone there (though it was stressful when I had to change host provider…that isn’t an experience I want to repeat anytime soon, so confusing!) Loving the fresh header too.x

Thank you so much fun! I paid for a pipdig one because I loved the design so much. Gosh is it all so confusing, I totally agree xxx

Oh my goodness! Congrats on making the move to self-hosted! As much as Siteground and Pipdig are there to help it doesn’t make the process any less nerve wracking but I’m so glad you found my post helpful. Which pipdig theme did you choose in the end?? Either way it looks absolutely stunning.

With your old site I recommend putting It onto private and then going onto google for Dead URL’s. This removes it from being listed on google pages. It will stop people following your old site and when they search for your blog the new one will pop up. You will still have access to your old blog through your WordPress account if you don’t want to completely delete the old one. I have a bit of a connection to my old blog and didn’t have the heart to delete it but it was showing up higher in google search pages than my new one which wasn’t really the best. To remove the link just type in Google Removal Tool and type your old blogs URL in. The process will need to be verified and make take a few days for the old one to stop showing up on search engines but it should go through pretty fast if you have the old blog on private.

This might help to make sure traffic gets directed to your new blog and not your old one. Sorry for the long winded explanation but I feel like this might help as it was something I wasn’t fully aware of when I first made the transfer. Let me know how you get on.

This is the most helpful comment ever. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to leave all this information to make this better when I know so little! I really appreciate this 🙂 I chose the Firefly theme because I loved the style – so cute. Thank you again, I cannot tell you how grateful I am!! xxx
