Does the NYX Setting Spray Really Work?

This has been on my wish list for some time so last week I took the plunge and grabbed the NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray from ASOS. I have been picking up a lot of my beauty bits from ASOS recently because the 10% student discount is too good to pass up!

The spray is a grand total of £7 and after wanting a setting spray for quite some time, I decided this was my best bet as NYX is my all time favourite brand.

So, what does it claim to do?

“A lightweight, water based setting spray that keeps your making looking dewy and amazing through any kind of weather”

Well that is a claim I cannot pass up considering my makeup seems to disappear after 5/6 hours.

My first impressions of this is great. I love how it makes my skin look glowing without being oily or wet. Even if my makeup still disappeared after a few hours, I would be happy with the finish it leaves anyway!

I have been doing some seriously long work days at NEXT during the sale on the hot as hell shopfloor so I look a little rough at the end of the day. This product has generally kept my makeup in place for around 6 hours but the tests I have been putting it through at work are a little extreme compared to just a normal day’s need. I am really impressed by how it works and I think to develop a better opinion on it I need to try it out on a normal day-to-day face.

PROS

  • Dewy finish without looking oily or wet
  • Very affordable, especially compared to the Urban Decay spray
  • The 60ml bottle seems like it will last a long time
  • Keeps everything in place for around 5/6 hours

CONS

  • Doesn’t hold up massively on long days in the heat

Have you tried this setting spray or any others that you recommend?

I really love the Maybelline Superstay setting spray. Took it on holibobs to Florida last year and it really did prevent the melt down that wee bit longer. I’ve tried the matte NYX spray but could take it or leave it.

I didn’t know they had one?! I will definitely check that out! Thanks for the recommendation xx

I just ran out of my urban decay setting spray and have been debating on a new one that’s cheaper. I really want to try the milani one or this one!

Would totally recommend it! Everyone raves about the UD one, I’m super interested in it!! I wanted to try out a cheaper one first because I didn’t know if they were for me. I really want to get it now xxx

I really recommend it if you want a high end one. Maybe try out the travel size one first if you are not sure. That one lasted me 3 months!

Sounds like a great product! WIll have to give it a try and remember not to wear it on long sweaty days!

I’m pretty damn impressed! I don’t think it works miracles but it definitely makes a pretty good difference!! xxx

Love this review! I have the UD all nighter setting spray and I really love it, might have to give this one a try though!

This seems like such a good spray, I really need to try this. I’ve never got makeup from asos but thinking about the discount I’m definitely going to start though!

I hadn’t thought about using ASOS for so long and then I was like hey heck I can get 10% off here?! Thanks for stopping by girly xxx

This setting spray didn’t work for me at all. I’m glad it’s working-ish for you though! I really love the one from SuperGoop. Bonus points that it has SPF 50! And I like the one from Morphe too xx.

    • July 23, 2017 / 12:42 am

Ah no?! That’s so crap! Crazy how things can be great for others and not for yourself 🙁 I have heard about the Morphe one! Really interested in it! xxx

I’ve only used the Matte setting spray by Nyx and that one works great! I’m not a huge fan of the dewy look so I’ll probably stay away from this one.

I have heard great things about the matte one too, but I’m a dewy girl! Thanks for stopping by xxx

I’ve never used a setting spray and I really like the NYX brand as well, I’ll have to add this to my list.

I’ve never used NYX dewy finish setting spray but I’ve used the NYX matte finishing spray and wasn’t impressed. It made my skin look matte for about an hour. I like Wet & Wild photofocus setting spray.

Oh really? That sucks 🙁 Glad you found one that works for you, though! xx

I got a mini version of the Urban decay setting spray ages ago and I fell in love with it, I’ve been interested in the NYX spray for ages… I might give it a try now! xo

I think I need to get that, everyone loves it! xx

Totally agree with what you’ve said! Love the product but definitely doesn’t last on a long humid day! I love the UD one, I work in a cosmetics department and the concessions usually have samples hidden away, if you’re a bit cheeky you might be able to get one if you ask! Worth a try for definite xo

    • July 24, 2017 / 10:51 am

Oh really? Thank you for advice, I will definitely try and be a little sneaky! Haha xx

  12. July 23, 2017 / 7:45 pm

I really need to try this one too! I feel like everyone likes it just like you do and it has such a decent price! Great review ☺️ xx

    • July 25, 2017 / 11:52 pm

Yeah it’s fab!! Never thought about it until I remembered the discount! Xx
