Primark Makeup Review | £4 Versus £24 Highlighter?!

This post is in collaboration with the lovely Ciara Tone who has a great blog. I have linked her here and I totally recommend checking her out.

I have used the MAC Soft & Gentle for years now and I have only ever tried one other highlighter because I love it so much and didn’t see much point in it. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke, right?

However, I have been watching so many Primark makeup reviews recently so I decided to have a look and after swatching this palette I picked it up straight away. With a £4 price tag, I was excited but didn’t know if it would match my £24.50 MAC highlighter that I love very much.

On First Glance

The Primark highlighter kit comes in a rose gold cardboard box which is super cute and the palette itself is black with rose gold writing (a little bit too much writing in my opinion!) It also comes with a small angled brush that I was excited to try as I actually love Primark makeup brushes for the price. Inside you get three colours, Luminous Light, Radiant Light and Glowing Light. Swatching these gives you a pretty impressive pay off and was enough to intrigue me to pick it up!

When I first got home and tried it out, I have to admit I didn’t expect much. When I tried it out, I was happily proven wrong! The silvery highlighter glided on and looked amazing. Maybe… even better than the MAC one I own?!

My Thoughts

I have been loving the first two shades that you get in this palette (I’m unlikely to use the matte highlighter as that isn’t something I reach for) and the combination of the darker highlight as a contour and the silvery one for highlight looks incredible. Since using the palette, the words have rubbed off the front which is slightly annoying as it is barely a month old but for the price, you can’t expect miracles!
The brush is also really nice and handing, especially for travelling. I have been using it every day for my highlight and I am really impressed with it.
Although, I have to admit, since owning this palette, I have not once picked up my trusty and beloved MAC highlighter and for that…

The £4 highlighter wins

Yep. I would repurchase this Primark highlighting kit over the MAC highlighter. I would totally recommend picking it up if you’re on the hunt for a great highlighter as this is just fantastic. It honestly lasts all day – something I struggle with getting my face makeup to do – it looks fantastic and the fact that you get a darker shade for contouring is just a massive bonus! I am so impressed and will be trying more Primark makeup out soon.

Have you tried any Primark makeup? Do you think you will now?

I’ve never tried any ‘Primani’ make-up, but this doesn’t sound bad at all for the price so I’d certainly consider in now in future. x

I was a little put off, I don’t know why?!, but I was honestly so pleasantly surprised! A lot of people have been saying good things about other products they have too! x

I tried a Poundland brand nail varnish not too long ago and was pleasantly surprised by that too! Really good colour & finish, though it was rather hard to remove. Still, a great buy for the price!

I have the face sculpting contour palette and the CC correctors (also a couple of brushes), and I seriously love it! Definitely a repurchase for me when it runs out! Will be trying this highlighter when I next see it! xx

£4 is crazy for such a nice product! I’ve never tried out Primark make-up before, do you happen to know if it’s cruelty free or not?

I didn’t think it was (I bought this without double checking which isn’t good!) but I just checked their website:

“15. Does Primark have a policy on the use of animal testing?
Yes. Primark does not conduct and does not commission any animal testing. Our terms of trade with suppliers make it clear that cosmetic products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals.”

      Yay! xxx

I got rid of the box so I’m not sure! I’ve had a google too but I couldn’t come across anything that says the ingredients 🙁 All I know is that it isn’t tested on animals! xxx
